Dia Dead
El Día de los Muertos
The day of the dead is a Mexican holiday where families spend two days honoring their loved ones who have passed away with happy and lively celebrations. November 1st, the first day of day of the dead, honors the children and holy spirits that have passed away. November 2nd is "All Souls Day," honoring the rest of those who have passed.
The day of the dead is a celebration of life, and so people throw very lively festivals. Lots of people will dress up and dance with items such as shells or noisemakers as a part of their costume. It is thought that the noise will wake the dead and welcome them back. These festivals also express bright colors and lively music, to express the celebration of life. The sugar skulls and bright colors are what inspire me to make art of this great holiday.
I made a sugar skull with bright colors and nice flowers to honor the day of the dead. I tried to use the colors and flowers to show that the day of dead is a happy celebration. that tells us to enjoy life and give thanks to those who have passed on.

Save Water PSA
No Water No Crops designed by Selma P. ©2015 |
People need to pay attention to how severe this drought is. Crops and livestock are dying due to the huge amount of water lost to people using it carelessly. When food becomes scarce, it only means one thing; the prices for food go up. Not only will we have to pay more for food, but wildfires are becoming more of a problem because of our lack of rain. These are very serious problems that people need to see before it is too late.
There are many ways to help end our drought. Always make sure to monitor your water bill to make sure that you are not using excessive amounts of water. Take shorter showers. Don't leave your faucets running while brushing your teeth or washing dishes. Any way of conserving water will help us get closer to ending this terrible drought.
My idea represents how people are carelessly using valuable water for aesthetics such as having a perfect lawn or using water for their own amusement. That water goes to waste, when it could have gone to our farmers, whose crops are drying up and dying due to the lack of water they have.

Toon Character Design
Welcome to my character, Pyro.
This is my T-shirt design for my character.
I wanted it be something that would show off a lot of his characteristics and his ability. This shows all of his body features and his power, in one design.
These are stickers I made to show one place Pyro loves to visit; Egypt. He finds the history very interesting, even if he witnessed it all himself. He also enjoys the food and people there, and he visits almost monthly.
Pyro is a demon wolf with ebony colored fur with five glowing, crimson eyes accompanied by spikes on his head and back. He is the size of a lion, but takes on the size of a wolf to hide himself from humans. He also has two mouths, can control fire, and teleport whenever he pleases.
Pyro was created in Greece by Death himself almost 2000 years ago. Although he belongs to Death, he roams the Earth alone, stealing souls and causing mischief whenever he pleases. He will trick people into thinking he is a normal dog then lead them to their death.Even though he likes to steal souls, he has come to like sleep and certain human foods, such as candy.

Designing Pyro was a bit of a challenge. Making his personality and characteristics was tough, but once I started thinking of color pallets, it helped me decide his character. He has gone through a few changes from when I first thought of him, but overall I am very happy with the design.
Here are my sketches of how Pyro developed. I got some inspiration from Metroid creatures from Metroid.
